Product Manager – K-12 Education Market (location – TBD)

We are looking for a Product Manager to drive our K-12 education product line. The successful candidate must have prior experience working as a product manager in the K-12 education market, and a minimum of 8 to 10 years of product management experience. In addition, this individual must have a strong passion for visual learning and improving students’ learning through the use of thinking and learning strategies and tools. This is a hands-on position that requires the ability to plan, as well as execute. Position reports to the president.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Work with Senior Management to develop the vision and direction for each of the K-12 products and our K-12 visual thinking product line.
    • Understand and keep abreast of the market and our customers needs applying that knowledge to develop, position and market thinking and learning tools that improve learning and are effectively adopted.
    • Develop and execute product roadmaps and implementation plans.
  • Champion the products inside and outside the company. Be the expert on the products, their market and uses.
  • Manage product releases working with all departments to ensure quality products that exceed customer needs and are delivered on-time and within budget.
    • Conduct customer interviews/surveys and competitive analysis to identify new product opportunities and update product functionality.
    • Develop positioning documents, customer personas and product requirements documents to drive development of the product and major upgrades.
    • Work collaboratively with Software Development to create and maintain development requirements, prioritize changes, and drive projects to completion.
    • Identify and manage development of supplemental materials and content for the products, managing and working with outside vendors and internal staff.
    • Work with Product Marketing to position and develop marketing/sales materials to launch products and product updates.
  • Work with marketing and sales on ongoing promotional efforts for all K-12 education products. Champion and present products at conferences and key customer meetings.
  • Review and analyze products’ ROI and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Initiate and manage third party relationships and key customer relationships that drive use, adoption and sales of the products.

While Inspiration Software is located in Portland, Oregon, we are open to considering a candidate who will work from a home office in their current location, and travel to our corporate office monthly for meeting.

 

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree required, MBA desired
  • Requires prior K-12 education product management experience, with a minimum of 8-10 years of overall product management experience required, including guiding product development
  • Prior product management experience with desktop and online software products and/or supplemental content highly desirable
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects and guide work that spans multiple departments, driving projects to completion, is required
  • Experience working in an Agile Development environment with Scrum teams desired
  • Capability to execute rapidly and efficiently in an unstructured environment
  • Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills and presentation skills required
  • Ability to work as a collaborative, effective member of a team
  • If individual is located in the Portland area, will be required to travel approximately 4 to 6 times annually to conferences, trade shows, or customer sites.
  • If the individual is located outside of the Portland area, will be required to spend a minimum of 2-5 days per month working out of the corporate office in Oregon, in addition to other business travel 4 to 6 times annually
